School Improvement encompasses a system of accountability for school districts and schools. Student performance is assessed as a measure to determine whether national and state educational standards are being achieved. Within the tenets of school improvement, the State Board of Education has the authority to impose sanctions and rewards as related to school performance.
Bay District’s School Improvement Process is an ongoing roadmap to coordinate and prioritize the work of each school in the context of student achievement. Each school develops a school improvement plan (SIP) that coordinates and prioritizes this process.
Florida is one of several states that recently applied for and attained a waiver from the requirements of No Child Left Behind. Obtaining this waiver means that we no longer are held accountable for the achievement of Adequate Yearly Progress goals. We are now bound to monitoring and achieving academic Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO). More information on this waiver and AMOs can be found in the links to the right of this text, specifically the NCLB-ESEA Waiver link.
