Out of County Students Minimize

Any parent/guardian wishing to apply for out of county approval for their child must complete ALL of the following steps:

  • Complete an out of county packet (available at all schools).
  • Obtain written release from the student’s home county school board to the Superintendent of Bay District Schools requesting permission for the student to attend a specific Bay District School.
  • Write a letter to the Superintendent of Bay District Schools requesting permission for your child to attend a specific Bay District School.
  • Provide evidence of a minimum of 2.0 GPA and that the student is performing at the State’s defined level of proficiency in each area tested by the FCAT.
  • Provide evidence of achievement test scores indicating that the student is on grade level for students K-3.
  • Provide evidence of no suspensions or expulsions within the last calendar year.
  • Sign a performance contract specifying maintenance of the above referenced academic standards, attendance and discipline standards.

Violation of the performance contract shall result in the student’s return to his/her home county school district.

No out of county student shall be placed in a school that is over the school’s enrollment capacity unless the student will be in the highest grade level at that school and the student attended that school the previous year. All above criteria must continue to be maintained to enter Bay District Schools.

Siblings of out of county students are not given any priority in placement.

Send all documentation to the Bay District Schools/ School Choice office.  Documentation must be completed 2 weeks prior to the School Board’s meeting. Upon School Board approval, a letter will be sent to you and the school your child was approved to attend.

ONLY THEN MAY YOU REGISTER YOUR CHILD IN BAY COUNTY AT THE APPROVED SCHOOL.
