1. New Substitutes may apply starting 8/1/14. All substitute teachers must be at least 18 years old and have a High School Diploma or GED, or higher.


2. Bring your High School Diploma or an Official Transcript reflecting your highest degree awarded to the Nelson building, 1311 Balboa Avenue, Panama City, FL. You will be directed to room 147 and given the substitute application packet and the information to have a mandatory Level II background check. The fee is $85 payable by credit, debit or check or money order (no cash) address: 1140 W 17th Street, Bldg 2, Panama City, FL 32401.


3. After being fingerprinted you may check on the result at Upon clearance of your background check return to the Nelson building with the completed substitute application packet. Partially complete packets will not be accepted. Please bring your Driver's license, Social Security Card or Birth Certificate, and a $20.00 check or money order (no cash) for a 5 year Substitute Certificate (unless you hold a valid Teacher's Certificate in Florida).


4. The final step to become a Bay District School Substitute is to schedule the mandatory training 8am - 3pm. This will be offered monthly and there is no fee. You will not be paid for the class, it is valuable information to be a successful Substitute. If additional information is needed call Penny Houpt, Substitute Registrar at 850-767-4230.
