How to Protect Students and Teachers

PROTECTIVE MEASURES:

1.  Wash hands using soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand rub before eating
     and after using the toilet.
2.  Wash hands for 15 to 20 seconds, long enough to sing “Happy Birthday” twice.
3.  Ensure that sink locations and restrooms are stocked with soap and paper towels
     or working hand dryer.
4.  Use paper towel to open restroom doors after washing hands.
5.  Clean frequently touched surfaces and shared items daily at home and in the
     classroom, using an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered
     disinfectant.
6.  Keep sick students home to prevent the spread of disease at school.
7.  Encourage sick staff and teachers to stay home.
8.  Remind staff and teachers to cover their coughs and sneezes using tissue or shirt
     sleeves not their hands.
9.  Remind students to cover their coughs and sneezes.
10. Educate parents about respiratory etiquette and hand washing and it’s importance
      in disease prevention at home.
