Last month, Bay District Schools and Chartwells K12 were saddened to learn of the loss of Julio Narvaez, the district lead for ChartwellsK12 for the past eight years. Julio was an amazing friend to the students of Bay District Schools and was a true servant leader who believed in providing the best customer service possible. During the hurricane, Julio ensured our shelters were fully staffed with food service personnel and he took the lead last Spring when our schools closed due to the pandemic and we launched our "meals on the bus" program. Whether he was asked to provide meals after hours to children in need, to bake a cake to help celebrate a staff member's milestone or to find creative solutions to challenging problems, Julio always stepped up for our children and our community. In his memory, we are hosting Julio Cereal Challenge for the month of March. We know Julio would love this initiative that involves our children in acts of service while also providing much-needed food to our community. We hope you will consider donating a box of cereal (or several) to one of our local schools in Julio's memory. Our elementary schools are competing to win the Cereal Challenge for Julio and we can't wait to announce our winner, and our very special celebration, next month.
