Hutchison Beach Elementary welcomed community leaders, parents, and district representatives to campus Friday morning for its annual Leadership Day, a celebration of student growth, goal-setting, and leadership in action. Guests included Superintendent Mark McQueen, Stuart Tettemer, members of the Bay District Schools Board, district staff, and families, all invited to see firsthand how students are developing the habits that prepare them for lifelong success.
As a “Leader in Me” School with Legacy Status, Hutchison Beach Elementary has built a culture where leadership is woven into the daily learning experience. This year’s theme, “Train Like Olympians. Grow Like Leaders.” highlighted the discipline, perseverance, and goal-setting that students practice throughout the school year.
Students took on the role of ambassadors for the event, serving as tour guides for visiting guests. Dressed professionally in suits and equipped with headsets, the student leaders confidently guided groups through classrooms and shared how they set personal goals, track their progress, and take ownership of their learning.
From the moment guests arrived, the school’s leadership culture was evident. Every student on campus is taught how to greet adults with a firm handshake and introduce themselves with confidence. Throughout the morning, visitors were welcomed by students who were courteous, engaged, and eager to share what they have learned.
Leadership Day provided a powerful reminder that leadership is not limited to titles or positions; it is a skill that can be taught, practiced, and strengthened over time. Through programs like Leader in Me, Hutchison Beach Elementary students are learning that leadership begins with personal responsibility, respect for others, and the courage to set goals and work toward them every day.
By the end of the morning, guests left campus with a clear message from Hutchison Beach students: leadership is not something you wait to grow into; it is something you practice every day.
