parent task force

What makes a school resource useful to a family? What helps parents feel connected, informed, and confident supporting their child’s learning? Bay District Schools is bringing parents into those conversations through its District Parent Task Force.

On October 22, parents of students attending Title I schools gathered at the Nelson Building to share their perspectives with the district’s Title I team, led by Loretta Mistrott. Superintendent Mark McQueen and Deputy Superintendent Denise Kelley also attended, reinforcing the importance of families’ voices in district decisions.

Title I provides additional funding to qualifying schools for support such as teachers, instructional resources, and family engagement opportunities. Parents help shape that work by offering insight into what families need and what makes it easier to participate in their children’s education.

During the meeting, families were asked to look at district resources through a parent’s eyes: Is the information clear? Is it helpful? How could it be better? Their feedback will help guide improvements to materials and opportunities designed to connect families with their schools.

That partnership is at the heart of the task force. Parents bring everyday experiences that help the district better understand how to reach families, remove barriers, and make support more accessible.

Bay District Schools appreciates the parents who made time to contribute and the Title I team’s commitment to listening. Each conversation helps strengthen a shared effort to give students the support they need at school and at home.
