Magical Moments at Build-A-Bear: BPA Students Build Skills and Memories
PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL – Breakfast Point Academy (BPA) students recently embarked on a heartwarming field trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop, turning a local storefront into a vibrant classroom for independence and inclusion.
The excursion, organized by Mrs. Zam and supported by a network of generous sponsors, was designed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience tailored to their unique needs.
A Sensory-Friendly Success
Recognizing the importance of a comfortable environment, the team at Build-A-Bear Workshop went above and beyond to accommodate the BPA crew. The store opened its doors early for a private session, featuring dimmed lighting and a full staff dedicated to the students' success.
"They ensured that every child felt comfortable, included, and celebrated," said Mrs. Zam. "Their kindness, patience, and genuine care truly made the day magical."
Learning Through Play
While the day was filled with smiles and fluff, it was also rooted in practical curriculum goals. Students navigated several "real-world" stations that encouraged growth in several key areas:
Executive Functioning: Practicing the sequencing of steps required to build a bear.
Autonomy: Making independent choices regarding styles and accessories.
Literacy & Documentation: Creating official birth certificates for their new companions.
Life Skills: Navigating the checkout process and practicing social communication.
Each step of the process was an intentional opportunity for students to build confidence and independence in a supportive, fun-filled setting.
Community and Connection
