π Big things are happening for Hiland Park Elementary! π
We are so incredibly proud of our very own Jaclyn McNeal and LaTarsha Ukazim for representing our school at the Bay County Reading Association Conference! πβ¨
Their presentation, βWriting with Flavor,β is taking the room by storm. They are teaching educators how to use a multi-sensory approach to spice up the classroom, spark engagement, and help students expand their language to take their writing to the next level. πΆοΈπ
Please join us in celebrating these two amazing leaders who are constantly finding creative ways to inspire our students and their fellow teachers! ππ

On Monday, January 26, 2026, FIN provided a brief overview of our supports and services, along with technical assistance on ways to implement specific instructional strategies for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Participants received information related to ESSA data for the students with disabilities subcategory and learned about the six collaborative teaching approaches designed to maximize instruction for students with and without disabilities. Attendees worked in groups to apply and plan the implementation of these strategies using provided scenarios.

Our proud princi-pal was able to visit the capitol this week to witness education committees and meet with legislators. Meeting Senator Trumbull was an honor and sharing with him our celebrations and struggles was humbling. Leadership is advocacy and Mrs Faircloth was excited to do that this week!

π« School will be closed Monday, January 19, 2026 in observance of MLK Day as we reflect on his message of unity, service, and hope.

Today was a deliciously fun learning day in some of our fifth grade classes at Hiland Park Elementary! π
Students explored the importance of writing clear step-by-step instructionsβand just as importantly, reading and following them carefullyβas they used snack items to build creative structures. From airplanes and houses to hamburgers and pizzas, the designs were imaginative and impressive! βοΈπ ππ
While organizing their ingredients, students sorted items that were malleable (our Word of the Day) versus those that were rigid, leading to great discussions about properties of materials. The learning went even deeper as students talked about what it means to be malleable in thinkingβwhen flexibility matters, how ideas can change, and why being adaptable is sometimes the best approach.
Hands-on learning, rich conversations, and lots of fun made for a fantastic fifth-grade experience! ππ
